• 'Cristiada' is a Passion Project for Eva Longoria Parker •

At a Mexico City press conference for her latest movie, Cristiada, Eva Longoria (who co-stars with Andy Garcia) told reporters in Spanish:

“Sorry about my Spanish. I was born in the United States, but I’m Mexican to the core.”

We believe her. You’d have to feel big love for a country to spend 12 weeks filming in some of its most violent areas—Durango and Zacatecas, where brutal drug-related killings are rampant and journalists have been kidnapped (the film’s producers say there was plenty of security for the stars). But that’s what Eva did for Cristiada, which just wrapped.

The movie, like Eva, is multi-culti: a Mexican production made in English. Also shot in Mexico City and San Luis de Potosi, the film co-stars a boatload of Latino talent: Catalina Sandino Moreno, Eduardo Verastegui, Ruben Blades and Santiago Cabrera. Cristiada is about a 1920s uprising by Catholic rebels who were protesting the revolutionary government’s attempts to secularize the country. Andy Garcia will play General Gorostieta, the charismatic leader who organized the Cristero rebel army. Eva will play his wife Elena. The producers hope to release the movie stateside in early 2011.

• Eva Longoria: US immigration is a federal issue •
Filed Under: eng • Posted By: Katerina
Taking a break from her Desperate Housewives duties, Eva Longoria attended the Cristiada press conference and photocall at Hotel Camino Real in Mexico City, Mexico on Wednesday (August 11).

The film — which features appearances Andy Garcia, Eduardo Verastegui and a slew of other Hispanic actors — is based on the Cristero War, a battle which lasted from 1926 to 1929 when the Mexican government attempted to limit the Catholic church’s participation in civic life and politics. This situation resulted in a bloody struggle, particularly in interior states.

For Eva, it was the first time she filmed a movie in Mexico and in Spanish — a fact she said she was “very proud of.”

While talking about her new flick, Eva opened up about her thoughts on the law against illegal immigration in Arizona.
“I think that immigration is a federal issue, so I do not seem particularly beneficial for states to take into their own hands and strengthen the punitive laws when they are inconsistent with the national plan on immigration,” she said.

Eva highlighted the role that Hispanics have had in American history since the First World War to the present.

The actress was hopeful of being able to continue to show all the positive contributions of Latinos to American culture through its many facets as an actor , producer and director.
“It is important to bring to light those stories that show how Latinos have changed the landscape in a beautiful way,” she said.

• Look For Less: Eva Longoria •

Eva Longoria always stylishly represents for petite women. Her looks are chic and easy to translate into your own wardrobe. We love this striped dress on Eva because it shows off her sexy toned legs. So many women are afraid of horizontal stripes for fear of looking bigger or like they just escaped from prison. When it comes to stripes, it’s all about finding the right size for your body type.

Eva kept her look simple by choosing black t-strap sandals, large silver hoops, and a stack of silver bracelets. Still unsure about a horizontal striped dress, you can always add a belt or throw on a blazer to make this look a little more comfortable for you.

• Eva Longoria: Starlite Gala gorgeous •

Tony Parker and Eva Longoria never miss the chance to dazzle on the red carpet.

Joined by fellow celeb couple Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith, the dogooding lovebirds stepped out on Saturday night (August 7) as they attended the Starlite Gala in Benahavis, Spain.

Looking pretty in pink, Eva and her NBA star hubby were on hand to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Meanwhile, joined by Rosario Dawson, Wilmder Valderrama and a handful of other celebs, Eva is taking a stand against the Arizona immigration law.
“I haven’t made it a secret that I’m strongly opposed to the Arizona law and I’ve been pretty vocal about it,” Eva says in the PSA for Voto Latinos & Mun2’s ‘United We Win’ campaign. “It’s unfortunate that this immigration issue has been on the national agenda for the past three administrations.”

Under the current Arizona law, Eva says she worries that racial profiling will lead to discriminatory pursuits of legal citizens.
“I think the biggest misconception is that everybody who is dark or of color is from somewhere else. I’m ninth-generation American. I’m more American than a lot of my Anglo friends,” she says. “If my father got pulled over because of the color of his skin, I could guarantee you I would be outraged.”

Other celebrities contributing to the campaign — which will debut in September — include Jessica Alba, hip-hop star Common, Amy Smart and Entourage actress Carla Gugino.
